My message this month is based on a simple truth. “If you want to develop a talent or improve a skill, you need to practice.” That practice is more than a half-hearted, begrudging effort. Great artists and athletes, teachers and doctors, mothers and fathers must dedicate much time and energy to Becoming. Becoming requires an “I am in this for the long haul,” attitude.
Our message this year is to Become centered in Jesus Christ and make Him a constant part of your daily walk. Become committed to Family History Work and gather your family beyond the veil. Become more involved in temple work.
How do you Become? Practice!
Practice having daily personal and family prayer. Practice studying the scriptures daily. Practice being like the Savior. Practice what we preach.
You don’t need to be perfect at it immediately. It takes time. Maybe even a lifetime. Start now and be patient with yourself. You will have the Spirit of the Lord as you try. One day you will look back and see that God made you something you weren’t. You will Become a New Creature.
So just . . . Practice.
With Love,
President Timpson
