National Day of Service

September 11th is the National Day of Service

The September 11th National Day of Service and Remembrance or 9/11 Day is a federally-recognized National Day of Service that happens in the United States on the anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorists attacks. The purpose of this day is to transform the anniversary of 9/11 from a day of tragedy into a day of doing good.

As part of this event our Stake will be supporting the SJUSD Food Distribution Program. Beginning 8/21/22 until the end of Sept. all ward buildings will have containers for folks to drop off items from the list below (anything is appreciated):

Items should be NEW & Unopened in original packaging. PLEASE – No bulk or expired items.

  • Snacks – Fruit Cups, Crackers, Chips
  • Juice – Large & mini sizes
  • Bottled water – Large & mini sizes
  • Boxed Dinners, Mashed Potatoes
  • Pasta, Rice, Grain, Flour, Sugar
  • Canned Fruit, Veggies, Soup, Meat Fish, Stew, Chili
  • Cup-o-soup, Mac & Chees cups, Ramen
  • Dry Cereal, Oatmeal, Pancake mix, Syrup
  • Granola Bars, Breakfast Bars, Pop Tarts
  • Peanut Butter, Jam/Jelly
  • Pasta sauce
  • ALSO Boys & Girls underwear (all sizes)
  • Toiletries: shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, toothpaste, etc.
  • Grocery Gift cards, checks payable to San Juan Unified School District

There is also a need for food that Muslim refugees will eat; please consider donating any items from this online list.

Update:

The stake did their first drop off at San Juan Central. We were able to drop off 20 bags of food and personal hyenine supplies. Thank you all for the donations! We’ll have donation boxes in each meetinghouse through the end of September.
